The Eco Instincts Vetting Framework

Asset 4

Every product on Eco Instincts is reviewed using the same transparent, product-led sustainability framework. Our goal isn’t to label products or brands as perfect, it’s to identify better options and explain why they matter.

Step 1: Sustainability Baseline (Required)

To be considered, a product must meet at least one of the following:

  • Responsible Materials
Recycled, organic, renewable, or lower-impact materials compared to conventional alternatives.
  • Ethical Production
Evidence of fair labour practices, ethical sourcing, or supply-chain transparency.
  • Longevity & Durability
Designed to last longer, be repaired, or reduce the need for frequent replacement.

Step 2: Impact Assessment

Each product is assessed across four core areas, with emphasis adjusted by category:

  • Materials & Resources
  • Ethics & Labour
  • Longevity & Circularity
  • Environmental Impact

Distribution & Availability Context
Where relevant, we also consider how products are distributed and made available within the region.

Products that are stocked and shipped locally may reduce unnecessary transport, lead times, and friction for consumers. This forms part of the broader sustainability context, alongside materials, durability, and production practices.

Local availability is not a requirement, and it does not override other sustainability considerations. Instead, it helps provide clearer, regionally relevant context when comparing products within the same category.

We explain product-specific strengths, trade-offs, and limitations so you can understand the full picture.

Step 3: Clear Communication

For every product, we explain:

  • What it does well
  • Where it can improve
  • Why it represents progress compared to conventional alternatives

Better information leads to better decisions.

Our Editorial Approach

Eco Instincts provides independent sustainability assessments based on publicly available information and brand disclosures. Our evaluations reflect our editorial opinion at the time of review and may be updated as new information becomes available.
